RouterOS End of Life (EOL) Dates and End of Support (EOS) Dates

Wondering whether your gear is past RouterOS end of life? MikroTik RouterOS is an operating system built on the Linux kernel for routers, and it runs on the company's networking hardware as well as on x86 PCs. The table below shows which releases are still patched, so you can decide whether to stay put or upgrade.

Figures below reflect the published schedule as of mid-October 2026. A release leaves the patched list when the next one lands, which makes the newest RouterOS 7 builds the safest place to be. Entries marked LT are long-term branches that stay current for longer.

RouterOS End of Life: How to Read the Dates

An end-of-life date is the day a branch stops receiving patches. Everything older than the branches marked "Active" is already past it, and the final build in the last column is the last update that branch will ever get.

The gap matters. If your router sits on 6.45.9, its last build arrived on 30 Apr 2020, and the newest 6.x build, 6.49.22, appeared on 21 Sep 2026. That leaves you roughly 6.4 years of fixes behind, so moving to 6.49 is the minimum step and RouterOS 6 itself is the wrong long-term target.

Check your installed version

Open a terminal on the device and run /system resource print. Compare the reported version against the table:

• Listed as Active: keep applying point updates.
• Listed as Ended: upgrade to the nearest long-term branch first, then plan the jump to the newest build.
• Not listed at all: it predates the table, so treat it as unmaintained.

RouterBoard Hardware End of Life and Upgrades

Software is only half the picture. Older RouterBOARD models are discontinued too, and resellers mark them "EOL" with a note that a newer model has replaced them, for example the RB192, which is listed as replaced by the RB493. A retired board can still run a current build only if its CPU and memory allow it, so check the model before you upgrade.

Buying a discontinued unit as a spare is rarely worth it: a replacement from MikroTik's current range costs about the same and keeps you on a patched build.
